Alex’s Marathon Journey—Resilience, Determination, and Giving Back

We are thrilled to share the inspiring story of Alex, a dedicated member of the Royal Hanover Lodge, who recently completed the Brighton Marathon! This incredible achievement is not just a personal victory but a testament to perseverance, community spirit, and the desire to make a difference for a remarkable cause: Momentum Charity.

A Journey of Recovery, Determination, and Masonic Commitment

Just last year, Alex faced a life-changing health challenge. Following surgery in June, Alex’s lungs partially collapsed, leading to respiratory failure and the need for continuous oxygen support. The recovery process was slow and daunting, with even short walks proving exhausting. However, with determination and perseverance, Alex slowly built up strength through walking and, eventually, running. Starting with just a mile, Alex gradually increased distance and endurance, eventually achieving the goal of running a 5K.

Alongside his recovery and marathon training, Alex has also been dedicated to his Masonic journey. Initiated into the Royal Hanover Lodge on 22nd March 2024, Passed on 24th January 2025, and Raised to the degree of Master Mason on 28th March 2025, Alex has embraced Freemasonry with enthusiasm. He regularly attends the Lodge of Instruction on Tuesday nights, where he actively engages with fellow brethren and continues to develop his Masonic knowledge and skills. Recently, Alex expressed his eagerness to further his Masonic journey by joining the Royal Arch, with his Exaltation into the Royal Hanover Chapter scheduled for 16th May 2025.

Setting a Higher Goal

Setting his sights higher, Alex took on the daunting challenge of running the Brighton Marathon—a leap from his initial 5 kilometers to a full 42.2 kilometers. Motivated by his personal journey, his Masonic commitment to self-improvement, and the desire to support Momentum Charity, Alex committed himself to rigorous training to prepare for the big day.

Overcoming Challenges on Race Day

Race day did not come without its difficulties. Around the 5-mile mark, Alex began to experience knee pain, but he refused to let it stop him. Pushing through the discomfort, he alternated between running and walking to keep moving forward. By the 9/10-mile mark, the pain had intensified, but Alex’s determination never wavered. He ultimately crossed the finish line with a time of 6 hours and 21 minutes—an incredible achievement given the obstacles faced.

Supporting Momentum Charity

Momentum Charity works with families across Surrey, Sussex, and London, providing tailored support to those facing some of the most challenging times. Their services include counseling, creative therapies, respite breaks, and more. For Alex, completing this marathon wasn’t just about personal triumph but also about making a tangible difference for children and families in need.

Gratitude and Continued Support

Alex would like to extend his deepest gratitude to everyone who supported him along the way. Your donations and encouragement meant the world, helping him push through when the going got tough. Completing the marathon is a milestone, but the real victory lies in the support shown for Momentum Charity, making a difference in the lives of families in need.

Although the marathon is over, the opportunity to support Momentum continues. If you haven’t yet donated, please consider doing so. Every contribution helps provide crucial support to families facing serious illness.

Congratulations to Alex on this outstanding accomplishment, his dedication to both his recovery and his Masonic journey, and thank you to everyone who rallied behind him. Your continued support truly makes a difference!
